It should be so obvious but taking that break from gaming will probably reset my mind in a lot of ways. The thing is, Bungie designed this game and this year in a way that makes it difficult for people to take breaks because they’re leaning really, really hard into FOMO as a punishment mechanism. I’ll treat the computer as a specialized tool only to be used for banking/programming/writing and all “fun” will be done on my phone (communication, YouTube) and the TV (Netflix / Amazon). However, in every thread that points out why Destiny sucks right now, I see someone advocating the OP to take a break. I want to spend more time tinkering with things and playing with tech stuff on my desktop instead of gaming. I will definitely read a lot of books during this time. I will probably binge a TV show or two but I’m not worried about that. I’m going to commit to a 90 day gaming reset. I definitely love video games but I’ve always struggled with taking a break from games. I recently met up in person to eat a meal with the same gaming friends and it was a much better experience for me. Yet, I still play a few hours of games and feel bad afterwards. I work 40-50 hours a week, workout after work, read for an hour or two a day and try to study new programming concepts after work. I don’t know why this is so hard for me to admit but I’ve finally backed up all games (50 total) and re-installed my entire OS to focus on programming alone (for that computer).
